Year 6 Transition
Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Information
A ‘Welcome Letter’ will be distributed after Easter, welcoming parents, carers, and students to The Halley Academy and confirming all the important details and dates of the transition process. When you receive this letter, you will have an opportunity to register your child’s interest in our exciting transition workshops and summer transition HARmony Camp.
Liaison with Primary Schools
In May 2019, the Academy Leadership and Small School Teams will visit your child’s primary school. During the visit we work very closely with your child's Year 6 teacher to ensure that we receive all the required information to support your child’s academic progress. During these visits, we give your child the opportunity to hear more about the life at The Halley Academy and to answer any questions which they may have in order to dispel any worries.
You will be invited to an admissions event on Monday 24 June 2019, where you will meet key members of staff who will be working with your child, our uniform supplier ‘Brigade’ and complete important paperwork to ensure a smooth transition process.
Year 6 Induction Day
On Wednesday 3 July 2019, your child will be invited to a transition day where they will have the opportunity to make new friends, attend new and exciting lessons and meet members of staff and students. Your child will often feel much more confident and reassured about the move after their 'Induction Day' has taken place and they are eager to return in September.
From Monday 1 July - Friday 5 July 2019, The Halley Academy will be running an exciting range of transition workshops. These sessions will be run by our teachers and supported by our student leaders. Last year, our students found this to be an excellent way to make new friends, get to know some of the teachers and find their way around the academy.
With the support of the Humanutopia staff, Ms Williamson and Ms Beswick, the Heroes have been given the opportunity to be creative and develop their leadership skills by designing and running the following workshops for our new Year 7 students:
- Drama: learn new skills and work in groups to create your own play
- Arts and Crafts: learn new skills and copy the style of your favourite artist to create your own masterpiece
- Food Technology: learn some new recipes and create a special dish to share with your friends and family
- Sport: learn new football skills from one of our experts and take part in a tournament
- Dance: learn new dance skills and create a performance for your friends and family
- Athletics: learn new skills and take part in a competition
Summer Transition HARmony Camp
From Monday 29 July - Wednesday 31 July 2019, The Halley Academy will be running a summer transition HARmony Camp in conjunction with Humanutopia. This is a fully-funded camp which is being designed and delivered by our Halley’s Heroes.
The transition from primary to secondary school is an important milestone in the lives of children and their families. At The Halley Academy we pride ourselves on providing our new students, parents and carers with a smooth and comprehensive transition program so that students arrive on their first day in September excited about the next chapter of their education, rather than feeling apprehensive.
We want all students who choose The Halley Academy to develop new friendships, improve their confidence and get used to their new routines and school organisation with great ease. We aim to enrich students’ learning experience by providing them with opportunities and challenges, along with the practical skills and knowledge to be confident well qualified individuals, ready for employment, training, or the next steps in their education.
The camp will begin at 10am every morning and finish at 2:45pm. On the final day, there will be a celebration for families to see the Year 7's hard work, and to meet some of the Halley's Heroes who will continue to support them through their transition.
