Social Action Group Visit to Tallow Chandlers' Hall
The Halley Academy Social Action Group and representatives from the Halley Academy Sixth Form had the wonderful opportunity of visiting the Tallow Chandlers' Hall in the City of London on Wednesday 13th February. Students were invited to mock interviews, have lunch and tour the Hall.
The Social Action Group chaired a meeting with Ms Kate Arbuthnot, Freeman, Dr Fiona Burford, Liveryman and Ms Ginny Sutcliffe, Liveryman to discuss their legacy, aims and input in the Law Review to make misogyny and violence towards women and girls a hate crime. They shared their work over the last 12 months and asked for assistance from the Tallow Chandlers to maintain the momentum of their campaign. They requested support with mentoring, sponsor events and professional campaigns.
At the same time, one of our Humanutopia Lead Heroes and Carlo Missirian, Co-Founder of Humanutopia, met with the Chairman of the Education and Charity Committee to explain the work that Humanutopia have undertaken in the academy over the last 12 months and the independent student leadership project which has been developed and led by our team of Year 9 and Year 10 Halley's Heroes.
Students were extremely grateful to the Tallow Chandlers for the opportunity to visit the Hall and for their continued investment in and support of The Halley Academy students.
